Authentic Colombian Pottery Artisan Salad , Height 15.5 Cm, Diameter 29.5, Weight 2 Kilos 8oogr
Our black pottery is handmade in. La chamba, a village in the tolima region of Colombia. For more than 300 years, 85% of the inhabitants of this village have been working together to create ceramics, using ancestral techniques passed down from generation to generation. Craftsmen source a specific type of clay on the banks of the rio magdalena. Once the clay is moulded into its desired form, it is dried in the sun and then polished with precious stones. The objects are then placed in the oven at 800 c. Finally, the craftsmen begin the smoking process using a combination of dried local spices. This last step gives the pottery its emblematic black color. The clay retains heat and moisture allowing slow and even cooking. Because clay absorbs moisture, there is less hard steam in the pot, so food can cook in its own juice and not dry out.
Moisture locked in the pot results in healthier, tastier and moist foods that require less fat and less fluid. Our kitchen utensils are not only beautiful, they are also very sturdy and will last many years with proper use and maintenance. On gas or electric stove, in the oven and microwave. Maintenance: Use of the dishwasher allowed, but not recommended.
Material: 100% organic clay, unleaded or varnish. Before using your pottery chamba for the first time, wash it well and fill it with half water.
Then place it in a gas oven for 30 minutes at 200c. This will prevent your pot from sticking during future use and will allow the clay to become stronger every time it is exposed to heat. This item is made of ceramic.
