This transferware service bowl was made in a furnivals. This is the very popular discontinuous model called blue quail. It has quail, flowers and an outer border.
The bowl has a pretty scalloped edge, a slight pedestal base and a bulging lid topped with an incredible finish. These covered bowls are extremely rare. The backstamp shows the register number, made in england, and furnivals quail. This particular piece is called a bowl of vegetables covered square. If you collect blue transferware this would be a nice addition.
Fans of downton abbey can recognize this pattern. Patmore pours tea into a blue quail teapot in season 6, episode 8.(thanks to my downton-obsessed friend for pointing it out). Size: 9.25 square x 6.75 high.
No chips, cracks or crazy or discoloration. Bought in england in the late 1970s and has been in a porcelain cabinet since that time. All items come from my smoke-free and pet-free studio. Shipping costs will be automatically refunded. This item is made of ceramic.
