This is a beautiful generously sized soda service bowl. It was hand-formed and sculpted, then several glazes were superimposed on the piece for final cooking in a soda oven.
The organic shape that each of these bowls takes is the product of my interaction with clay as it is formed, dried and sculpted. As such, each of my ships made in this way is unique. This piece only got a light coating of soda, and therefore the raw clay outside on the bottom is rather dry. This works well for this combination of glaze, as it has a slightly shiny semi-mat appearance that brings out the heat of the room.It will be beautiful on its own, or with fruit, breads, or a main entrance served to your family and guests. This coin weighs nearly 4 pounds. It has the smallest bit of a wobble that will not have an impact on its functionality. Dimensions about: 11-1/2 x 9-1/2 and stands about 3-1/2 height. It was handmade by me from start to finish using non-toxic sandstone clay and 100% unleaded glazes in my downgingtown, pa (usa) studio, and pulled on the soda oven from my local community art center.
