Tanaka was creative and exploratory with her forms and there is a strong mingei aesthetic in her work. She worked in both porcelain and sandstone, and she was not slouch with either body of clay. Its shapes are functional, and the glazes and decoration (especially on porcelain) are quick sumi brush sketches and are amazingly beautiful.
I have just been informed that taeko has recently passed away (7/14/19). I am saddened to hear about this to be sure. Taeko was responsible for introducing randy johnston to shimaoka-san, and setting up his learning to mashiko. She also introduced shimaoka to warren.
She is/was undoubtedly a much-loved and influential potter in the history of mingei-sota pottery/community here, and her work is imho criminally underestimated in the very scene that skews white male. 3 1/4 height without a lid. 6 1/2 inches in diameter. 3-inch base 9 1/2 edge handle.
